Silk Road drug seller sentenced to 6 years

BALTIMORE (AP) — An Edgewood man who prosecutors say sold drugs through the Silk Road website has been sentenced to six years in prison.

Thirty-three-year-old Jacob Theodore George IV had pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute drugs. He was sentenced Friday in federal court in Baltimore.

According to his plea agreement, George contacted buyers through Silk Road and accepted payment via bitcoin, a digital currency.

Prosecutors say George purchased drugs, including heroin, from dealers in the Baltimore area and shipped them via the postal service throughout the United States and internationally.
