Feds dole $5M for runway work at Salisbury airport

SALIBURY, Md. (AP) — Good news for air travelers on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.

The U.S. Transportation Department has awarded a $5.5 million grant to the Salisbury-Ocean City: Wicomico Regional Airport to rehabilitate one of the airport’s two runways.

U.S. Sen. Ben Cardin, D-Md., announced the grant Wednesday in Salisbury.

The runway improvements will allow the airport to support heavier planes with more passengers and cargo.

The runway has not been renovated in 30 years.

Officials expect work to begin next month and take about 10 months to complete.
