Firefighters rescue drivers in Anne Arundel

LINTHICUM, Md. (AP) — Anne Arundel County firefighters are conducting multiple water rescues in heavy rain in the northern tip of the county.

No injuries were reported and no one appears to be in imminent danger.

Fire Department spokesman Lt. Russ Davies tells The Capital (http://bit.ly/Vjd5pC ) calls began coming in around 1:15 p.m. Tuesday. Most appeared to be from drivers with vehicles stalled in high water. There were rescues in the areas of Linthicum, Brooklyn Park and Glen Burnie.

The National Weather Service reports nearly 6 inches of rain at nearby BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport.

Roads throughout the county are affected by the rain. Police are asking motorists to be patient and to use alternate routes.

Forty callers to the fire department reported flooded basements.
