WASHINGTON — A 10-year-old girl is recovering from serious injuries after being hit on her bike by a vehicle as she crossed a street in North Bethesda early Friday evening.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue tweeted at 6:22 p.m. that the child was struck near the intersection of Tuckerman Lane and Kings Riding Way, west of Route 355/Rockville Pike.
The girl suffered serious and at first reported life-threatening injuries. She has been transported to Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. but at last report has non-life-threatening injuries.
The female driver of the black Cadillac car who struck the girl did remain on the accident scene.
The speed of drivers is an issue at this intersection. Outraged neighbors say the area is notoriously dangerous, but police claim their hands are tied reports ABC 7.
The child was knocked unconscious, but her life may have been saved by her helmet.
“She is in serious, but stable condition,” said Capt. David Falcinelli of the Montgomery County Police Department.
