FBI Director visits Baltimore field office

BALTIMORE (AP) — The new director of the FBI is emphasizing the agency’s commitment to combat terrorism and fostering strong partnerships with local law enforcement.

Director James Comey stopped by the Baltimore FBI field office Monday on his tour of the 56 FBI field offices in the United States.

Comey said the bureau’s top priority remains national security and counterterrorism, citing enduring threats from al-Qaida in Iraq and Syria. But Comey also stressed the bureau’s dedication to supporting city and state law enforcement agencies as they tackle violent crime gang activity and public corruption.

Comey is the seventh director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. He succeeded Robert Mueller, who served as FBI director for 12 years.
