GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — Jose Cuas drove in three runs to help Maryland beat Florida State 5-3 on Friday in the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament, a win that ultimately helped send the sixth-seeded Terrapins to the championship game.
Cuas hit a two-run double in a four-run third inning for Maryland (36-19), which improved to 11-0 in May and 2-0 in tournament pool play. Playing in their final ACC tournament before moving to the Big Ten, the Terps earned a spot in Sunday’s final when Virginia beat North Carolina in Friday’s nightcap.
Mike Shawaryn (10-3) earned the win against FSU, allowing two hits in seven innings.
The second-seeded Seminoles (42-15) scored three in the eighth, two on wild pitches and one on an RBI single from John Nogowski. Mike Compton (7-2) took the loss, while FSU committed two errors in Maryland’s big inning.
Maryland faces UNC in Pool B on Saturday, while FSU faces Virginia.
