Truck that went off Va. bridge-tunnel recovered

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) — A tractor-trailer that went off the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel has been recovered.

Bob Crofton with Crofton Industries tells media outlets that Crofton crews pulled the tractor-trailer from the water on Sunday and secured it on a barge.

On Saturday, divers recovered the body of the driver. Police identified the driver as 45-year-old Daawuud Hakim.

Authorities say the tractor-trailer hit a stopped maintenance vehicle on the bridge-tunnel on Thursday, jackknifed, hit a light pole and then plunged into the water.

The Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel connects the Eastern Shore of Virginia with Virginia Beach and spans more than 17 miles of water.
