WESTMINSTER, Md. (AP) — A legal battle over Christian prayer at Carroll County government meetings goes on, despite the Supreme Court’s ruling in a similar case in New York state.
Plaintiffs in the Maryland case asked a federal judge in Baltimore Tuesday to re-impose an order barring the Carroll County Commissioners from opening their public meetings with overtly Christian prayers.
The judge lifted the preliminary injunction Monday, shortly after the Supreme Court approved of Christian prayers said by invited clergy at public meetings in the town of Greece, New York.
In Carroll County, the commissioners say the prayers. The American Humanist Association says in its motion that that’s a key difference between the cases.
Commissioners President Dave Roush says the five commissioners will discuss the matter during their public meeting Thursday.
