UPPER MARLBORO, Md. – Why workout, when you can TwerkOut?

The new dance class at the Fab Body Factory in Upper Marlboro, Md. is bringing the latest dance craze from the Internet into the gym.

It started just a few weeks ago, after owner Deanna Jefferson and dance instructor Lela Wilhite decided to create the class, which incorporates the twerking style of dance with some fitness moves.

“We do squats, we do planks, we do sit-ups, we do leg work,” says Wilhite. “It’s a great, great way to learn some dance moves, to burn some calories, to have fun with your girlfriends.”

Wilhite believes the class is a way for women to get out and enjoy themselves, without having to worry about who is watching.

“Sometimes you’re shy in the club, and you don’t really want to twerk,” she says. “But you come here and you can really twerk out.”

Don’t worry if you’re not much of a dancer. The class is structured for everyone, from beginner to advanced.

“Each class she shows you how to bend down, how to pop your back,” Jefferson says. “We go in there and we move. And as long as you’re moving, you’re burning calories and having fun.”

Jefferson says the twerkout is perfect for someone interested in easing into a new workout routine.

The classes are every Wednesday night from 7:45-8:45.
