Delays for Camden Line MARC commuters continue Tuesday

UPDATE – Monday, 7/29/2013, 10:25 p.m. ET

WASHINGTON – Delays will remain for some MARC passengers Tuesday as repairs continue after a Sunday train derailment.

Camden Line riders should expected 10-15 minute delays. Morning trains traveling northbound toward Baltimore and evening trains traveling southbound toward Washington should prepare for delays of 25-30 minutes.

EARLIER – Sunday, 7/28/2013, 9:41 p.m. ET

WASHINGTON – The Camden Line will operate on one track Monday to get past the derailment site. The full Camden Line schedule will operate (not the “S” schedule) but there will be delays from 15 to 30 minutes – including to and from the station.

Maryland MTA says:

“If you want to avoid potential delays, passengers are reminded that Camden Line tickets are always honored on the Penn Line. In addition, MARC weekly and monthly tickets are honored on the Baltimore Light Rail; Camden Station passengers can ride the Penn-Camden shuttle to Penn Station.”

WTOP Transportation Reporter Ari Ashe says passengers who normally use Jessup, Savage and Laurel are about 15 to 20 minutes from the Odenton MARC station. Muirkirk is also about 20 minutes from Odenton or 15 minutes Greenbelt Metro.

Greenbelt is about 15 to 20 minutes from the New Carrollton MARC station or passengers can use Metro’s Green Line.

“The delays on the Camden Line are an inconvenience more than anything else. If Camden line riders between Baltimore and D.C. want to avoid delays, consider the BWI, Odenton, Bowie State, Seabrook or New Carrollton stations,” says Ashe.

“Plan some extra time because Penn Line trains are often packed and parking lots fill up more quickly than at Jessup, Savage, Laurel and Muirkirk.”

WASHINGTON – MTA says the Brunswick Line will operate a full schedule, not the “S” schedule on Monday. All trains will operate as scheduled. Information is expected by 10:30 p.m. for the Camden Line.

WASHINGTON – Maryland’s MARC riders should expect disruptions and delays to their normal commuting schedules on Monday, July 29.

The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) says a CSX freight train derailment that took place Sunday, July 28 at 10 a.m., just south of Camden Station near Bush Street, left all tracks blocked.

This derailment will have an impact on the Camden and Brunswick lines for Monday’s commuting schedule.

According to MTA spokesperson Terry Owens, the MTA is currently working on the logistics for tomorrow’s schedule, which he estimates will impact thousands of riders.

One possibility is instituting an “S schedule.” Under this schedule, which usually runs on holidays, only train numbers with an “S” will operate.

“We’re still working through logistics to determine the possibility of what’s going to work,” Owens says.

The derailment also means there will be no service at Camden Station; trains will originate at Dorsey, according to the MTA. The advisory recommends that Camden Station passengers use the light rail to Penn Station.

The Penn Line service is not affected by the CSX train derailment. Trains on this line will operate on a full schedule on Monday.

Owens says the MTA will provide more information on the logistics for tomorrow’s commuting schedule later this evening. Riders can find the updated information on the MTA’s website.

“We don’t have a time right now. We’re waiting to hear what’s going to be resolved,” Owens says.
