Trader Joe’s peanut butter linked to Salmonella

WASHINGTON – Consumers are advised not to eat or purchase Trader Joe’s Valencia Creamy Salted Peanut Butter made with sea salt because of a possible link to a Salmonella outbreak.

Other peanut butter products sold at Trader Joe’s may also be affected, according to the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

The department is working with several state health departments to identify the source of the multi-state Salmonella outbreak.

In Maryland, one individual under age 18 was hospitalized and has since recovered.

Symptoms of Salmonella infection included diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps. Anyone with these symptoms who has consumed Trader Joe’s brand Valencia Creamy Salted Peanut Butter should consult a doctor.
