Bowie man faces new sex abuse charges after release

WASHINGTON – For the third time this month, a Bowie, Md., man is facing charges related to the sexual abuse of a minor.

Michael David Brochu, 52, was re-arrested Monday and charged with third- and fourth-degree sex offense, as well as second-degree assault. Prince George’s County police say he met an 11-year-old boy at a local pool in Bowie and sexually abused him between June 27 and Aug. 19, 2011.

Brochu also is accused of abusing a 10-year-old boy visiting his home between April 2011 and June of this year; a 6-year-old family member on June 21 of this year while at a pool in Bowie and an 8-year-old boy in Brochu’s home between Sept. 1, 2011 and July of this year.

The Bowie Patch reports Brochu was released on bond after both of his initial arrests this month. Patch says he remained in police custody as of Thursday following the latest charges.

The Gazette also reports that Brochu was convicted of similar crimes in the 1980s in Howard County, Md. Seven boys said Brochu molested them, according to the Gazette, citing The Baltimore Sun.

Brochu reportedly received a five-year suspended sentence and five years probation, and was ordered to continue with psychological counseling. The Gazette reports Brochu told police of his prior offenses following his first arrest this month, but police could not find them in a database search.
