Final defendant in ID ring gets prison in Va.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — The final defendant in a sophisticated multistate fake identification ring has been sentenced to 57 months in prison.

Mexican national Freddy David Santos Campuzano was sentenced Thursday in Richmond in U.S. District Court. The 32-year-old defendant previously pleaded guilty to racketeering and money laundering conspiracies.

U.S. Attorney Dana Boente (BEN’-tay) says Santos Campuzano had served as the manager of the Cincinnati, Ohio, cell of the ID ring. He faces deportation to Mexico once he completes his prison sentence.

Boente says 42 members of the organization have been convicted.

The enterprise was based in Mexico and operated in Virginia, Arkansas, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Ohio and Rhode Island. It sold high- quality, bogus documents for $120 to $250 a set to people in the country
