West Nile detected in mosquitoes in Norfolk

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — Norfolk health officials say samples from mosquito pools in two neighborhoods have tested positive for West Nile virus.

The Department of Public Health tells media outlets that one sample was collected in the city’s Ingleside neighborhood on July 24. The other was collected from the North Shore Point neighborhood on Aug. 5.

The health department says it’s continuing mosquito control and surveillance activities in the neighborhoods.

West Nile is commonly spread by mosquitoes infected with the virus.
