Va. man named commander, CEO of Civil Air Patrol

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — A Virginia man has been named national commander and chief executive officer of the Civil Air Patrol.

The nonprofit organization says Maj. Gen. Joe Vazquez of Henrico was sworn in Friday during the organization’s 2014 National Conference in Las Vegas.

Vazquez had previously served as national vice commander. He succeeds Maj. Gen. Chuck Carr.

He said Saturday in a news release that he initially will focus on member and mission development.

Vazquez has been a member of the nonprofit organization since 1975.

The Civil Air Patrol has 60,000 members across the nation.
