FROSTBURG, Md. (AP) — Fire officials say a bulldozer operator was injured when the equipment slid 150 feet down an embankment at a strip mine in Frostburg.
It happened about 1:15 a.m. Thursday at the Vindex mining site. Roger Bennett, assistant chief of the Shaft Volunteer Fire Department, tells The Times-News of Cumberland (http://bit.ly/XKcqzn) that the operator was trapped in the cab of the bulldozer.
Bennett says a second bulldozer was used as an anchor for rescuers to rig a Stokes basket to the operator.
The rescue took three hours. The operator was taken to Western Maryland Regional Medical Center in Cumberland with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
The accident is under investigation.
