Bicyclist going wrong way on northbound Baltimore-Washington Parkway

WASHINGTON — Multiple agencies Thursday morning were looking for a bicyclist traveling against traffic in the northbound lanes of the Baltimore-Washington Parkway, disrupting and endangering himself and other drivers.

The man, seen stripping down at different points during the more than half hour event, was first spotted by callers to the WTOP Traffic Center near Hyattsville, Maryland around the Pepsi Plant biking southbound in the northbound lanes of the parkway.

WTOP Traffic Reporter Finn Neilsen saw the cyclist south of Bladensburg. It appeared he was daring drivers to strike him, Neilsen says.

A caller to the WTOP Traffic Center said the bicyclist was headed eastbound on U.S. 50 toward Md. 202. Neilsen, who traveled that stretch, says the biker was an African American man with dreadlocks. He was not wearing a helmet.

The man pedaled through fast-moving traffic between U.S. Park Police and Prince George’s County Police jurisdictions.

“It’s unknown where he entered or exited off the parkway,” says Sgt. Lelani Woods with U.S. Park Police.
