Md. state trooper shoots pit bull after bite

MECHANICSVILLE, Md. (AP) — Maryland state police say a trooper shot a pit bull that grabbed her baton and then bit her.

The dog was wounded and ran away after the shooting, which occurred shortly after 9 a.m. in Mechanicsville.

The trooper was responding to a report of an unconscious person inside a home. Police say the dog charged her as she entered the home.

Police say the dog retreated before attacking again, taking the trooper’s baton away and then biting her on the foot. The trooper fired a single shot that wounded the dog.

Police and animal control workers have been searching for the dog. Police say that according to neighbors, the dog has bitten other people in the past.
