Va. man convicted of murder sentenced for thefts

LOVINGSTON, Va. (AP) — The man convicted of killing a Nelson County teenager has been sentenced in an unrelated theft case.

Media outlets report that 49-year- old Randy Taylor pleaded guilty Tuesday in Nelson County Circuit Court to grand larceny. Taylor was accused of stealing a dirt bike and an all-terrain vehicle from a business in Greene County.

Judge J. Michael Gamble sentenced Taylor to five years in prison and then suspended four years of the term.

Investigators discovered the stolen vehicles on Taylor’s property while searching for evidence in the disappearance of 17-year-old Alexis Murphy.

Taylor is awaiting sentencing on charges of first-degree murder in commission of abduction and abduction with intent to defile.

Murphy disappeared in August 2013. She was last seen at a gas station in Lovington.
