Community improvement grants total $8.5M in Va.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Thirteen projects across Virginia are in line for more than $8.5 million in grants for sewage treatment and water projects and downtown revitalization.

Gov. Terry McAuliffe announced the Community Development Block Grant funding on Thursday. More than $930,000 is going to Martinsville for a Northside community development project, while $1 million in Wise County is earmarked for a sewer project.

Other recipients include the town of Appalachia to repair a water line, Mecklenburg County for housing rehabilitation, and Colonial Beach for downtown improvements.

Funding is also headed to Buchanan, Greensville and Grayson counties and the towns of Clifton Forge, Troutdale, Crewe and Cleveland. The grants will support housing and rehab projects.
