Fire damages school overnight in Silver Spring

SILVER SPRING, Md. (AP) — Montgomery County authorities are investigating a fire at a school for people with developmental disabilities and Masonic lodge in Silver Spring.

Officials closed a section of University Boulevard near Dennis Avenue on Wednesday morning after the fire at the National Children’s Center. The school shares a building with a Masonic lodge. The area was later reopened to traffic.

Officials say a fire alarm went off about 4 a.m. Wednesday. The fire apparently caused major damage on the second floor of the building. No injuries were reported.
