Service has designated driver pick you up — and your car

GAITHERSBURG, Md. – A night of drinking can end up in disaster for anyone who’s had too many but doesn’t want to leave their car. But a new program in the area will get a driver for those in need.

The BeMyDD program is available in 31 cities across the country and is gaining popularity in the D.C. area. Members request a personal driver using the GPS- enabled app to pick them up at any location within 16 miles of the District.

“If you’re already out and about, we can go ahead and take you and your car home right there,” says BeMyDD President and CEO Arthur Simanovsky. “It’s pretty much a personal chauffeur.”

A team of two drivers arrive at the client’s location — one drives the vehicle and the client to their chosen destination.

Members can even request the same driver, if available.

The pick-up service costs $25 plus a $2.75 mileage fee. BeMyDD also offers a designated driver service at an hourly rate. Membership is $25 per year. Drivers are required to clear a background check and carry proof of insurance at all times. The company carries liability coverage up to $2 million per incident.

Anyone in the D.C. area can use the program but there are incentives for Montgomery County residents. The Montgomery County Department of Liquor Control is endorsing the program and information can be found at any county liquor store. Montgomery County residents can sign-up for a free annual membership and enter to win 24 free rides.
