Waddell, 6-run third lift Virginia past Arkansas

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) — Brandon Waddell allowed two runs in 6 2-3 innings and Virginia scored six times in the second inning and won the Charlottesville regional with a 9-2 victory against Arkansas on Sunday night.

Waddell (8-3) extended the scoreless inning streak for Cavaliers starting pitchers to 21 2-3 innings before allowing a two-out, two-run homer to Krisjon Wilkerson in the seventh.

The Razorbacks (40-25) beat Bucknell 10-0 earlier in the day to reach the final, but Waddell allowed just seven hits before Whit Mayberry finished, allowing just one hit.

The Cavaliers (47-13) advanced to the super regionals for the fifth time in six years. They will face ACC foe Maryland, which stunned South Carolina with a pair of wins.

The Cavaliers got on the board on a single, a hit batter and two walks in the third. Derek Fisher and John La Prise later added two-run singles.
