Girl, 12, dead after crash during Md. police chase

BALTIMORE (AP) — A 12-year-old girl has died after a man fleeing from police crashed his car into a van the girl was riding in.

Baltimore City Police say it happened Tuesday evening in the 1100 block of E. Preston Street. Police say they were pursuing a man driving a Ford sedan who is a person of interest in a homicide.

Witnesses say the sedan ran a red light and crashed into a minivan carrying a woman and two children. After the crash, the driver of the sedan fled.

The woman and one child were able to get out of the van and have non-life-threatening injuries. Police say Shanizya Taft died at a hospital. The man driving the Ford sedan remains at large.
