Goodwill reports serving 9.8 million last year

ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) — Goodwill Industries International provided job placement and training to 9.8 million people in 2013.

The Daily Record (http://bit.ly/1ohja26 ) reports the Rockville-based nonprofit organization announced this week a 46 percent increase from the 6.7 million people it served in 2012.

However, the number of people Goodwill placed in jobs increased by only 21 percent from 2012. According to its website, Goodwill helped 261,875 people gain meaningful employment last year, compared with about 216,000 the year before.

Goodwill says the amount of money earned by workers it placed in jobs also increased by about 21 percent. In 2012, they made $3.62 billion. That grew to about $4.4 billion in 2013.

President and CEO Jim Gibbons says that “every 27 seconds of every business day, someone finds a job through Goodwill.”
