Talent, skills in the spotlight at Arena Stage jobs fair

WASHINGTON – It’s the second encore for a popular event held at the Arena Stage. But this has nothing to do with theater and everything to do with jobs.

On Friday, the third D.C. Job Fair was held at the Arena Stage. This latest job fair is the result of the public wanting more. The last two job fairs, in March and November last year, were a big hit with as many as 3,500 job seekers attending.

The job fairs are a partnership between the Arena Stage and D.C. Councilman Tommy Wells, who is running for mayor.

Khady Kamara, Arena Stage chief marketing officer, says they will host these job fairs on a regular basis.

“We are also considering it our civic duty to continue to host regularly these job fairs,” she says. No date has been set for the next job fair.

During Friday’s job fair, about 20 area businesses, government agencies and non-profits set up tables and had representatives to meet with prospective employees.

Christopher Booker from Northwest D.C. spoke with representatives manning the U.S. Secret Service table.

“I’ve always wanted to do law enforcement. So this may give me the opportunity to branch off into that field,” Booker says.
