Movie theater evacuated after fireworks explode

WASHINGTON — Police are still trying to figure out who lit fireworks in a movie theater Saturday night.

It happened at about 10 p.m. Saturday at the Cinemark Theater at the Arundel Mills mall. Anne Arundel County police received a call reporting that shots had been fired during a screening of “300: The Rise of Empire.”

When officers arrived, according to a statement from the police, they determined that no shots had been fired. Instead, they soon found a homemade device with a type of firework inside a juice bottle.

About 325 tickets to the film had been sold, and as a precaution the officers evacuated the theater.

No one was injured in the incident, though someone suffered non-life-threatening injuries “that were not as a direct result of this incident,” the police say.

The police are asking anyone with any information, including anyone with pictures or video of the incident, to call 410-222-6155.
