Expect snow for Wednesday morning commute

WASHINGTON — A snowy Wednesday could mean trouble for commuters as several inches are expected to fall through the morning.

On Tuesday, there were generally 1-2 inches of snow across the area, with some isolated areas that received slightly more.

And guess what: I expect similar results Wednesday morning. However, I do believe that Wednesday’s snow could be more of a problem.

Why? Timing. The snow will enter the region around 4 a.m., just in time for the morning commute. Additionally, we’ll be in a Winter Weather Advisory until noon.

Road temperatures cooled through the day on Tuesday, which will allow snow to stick to the roadways more quickly Wednesday morning. Once the snow starts falling, it will continue into the lunch hour, possibly wrapping up slightly earlier west of the D.C. area.

As far as snow accumulation, current thinking is around the same as Tuesday: 1-2 inches with some localized heavier amounts. However, still minor accumulation.

Winds will pick up through the mid-morning and afternoon hours, leaving us with a very breezy day as the snow exits the region. Wind chills will measure in the upper teens and lower 20s as our air temperature will remain in the lower to mid 30s. A blustery Thursday is in store as well but with sunshine, and temperatures will rebound to around 40 degrees.
