Teen leads Va. police on chase in stolen minivan

WASHINGTON – A teen from D.C. was arrested Sunday night after he led police on a high-speed chase along Interstate 95 in a stolen minivan.

Virginia State Police did not release the 17-year-old boy’s name.

He faces charges of reckless driving, driving without a license, and possession of stolen property/grand larceny.

The miniman was clocked traveling faster than 90 mph and a state trooper tried to pull over the van near Exit 169 in Springfield about 8:30 p.m. The minivan refused to pull over and led police on a chase to Route 123 and then toward Lorton, according to police.

The driver bailed and fled on foot as the empty van rolled off the road and struck a tree, according to police.

Police searched for the teen from the air and using police dogs before finding him and arresting him.

The boy was taken to the Fairfax Juvenile Detention Center.

The van had been reported stolen in Alexandria, police say.
