Va. man killed while racing on Franconia-Springfield Parkway

WASHINGTON — A 30-year-old Manassas, Va., man died Thursday morning after losing control of his car while drag racing on the Franconia-Springfield Parkway.

Officials say Brian Benjamin Blaine’s 2001 Honda S2000 convertible was seen racing a dark, newer model Infiniti southbound near Spring Village Drive around 11 p.m. Wednesday. Both cars passed each other several times, according to witness statements.

Blaine lost control of the Honda while exiting a curve, police say. His car veered to the right, hit an embankment and tree and then rolled over before coming to rest in the southbound lanes of the parkway.

He was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead Thursday morning.

Authorities have not determined if alcohol was involved.
