Md. woman sentenced for hair weave theft, altercation (Video)

WASHINGTON – A Maryland woman who got into an altercation when she tried to steal hair weaves from a Montgomery County store will spend five years in jail, NBC 4 reports.

Yvonne Williams, 19, tried to rob Gaithersburg’s Town Beauty Supply store of about $850 in hair weaves in September 2012 and got her child involved in the fight as well. Video shows her trying to take the store owner’s cellphone from over the counter and hitting her with a shoe during an altercation.

At one point, Williams’ baby was caught in the middle of the fight and slipped onto the floor as her stroller is flung around. The women continue to fight as another of Williams’ acquaintances picks up the child.

Ramon Korionoff with the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office told NBC 4 that Williams was trying to use the baby as a cover to get away with the crime.

Williams pleaded guilty to attempted robbery while an accomplice plead guilty to disorderly conduct.

“Justice is done. Period. So, for this person to go away, it doesn’t just help the store, but the community as well,” Town Beauty Supply customer Manuela Giaciya told NBC 4. “Because if they can do it here — what else?”

A third suspect in the case has yet to be identified.
