Feeding the hungry this holiday

WASHINGTON – The SHARE Food Network which is part of Catholic Charities of the Washington Archdiocese is providing the fixings to prepare a Thanksgiving Dinner for eight for as little as $20.

These thanksgiving packages can be picked up at SHARE’s warehouse, located at 5170 Lawrence Place in Hyattsville.

It happens over the next few days and Saturday distribution will occur from 5:30 to 10 am.

SHARE Director Jaynee Acevedo says there will be “435,000 pounds of food in four days coming out of this warehouse. That represents a savings to the community of $430,500.”

Many churches and other organizations have pre-paid for several packages they plan to give away to needy families. A woman who works for the City of New Carrollton says “It’s a good amount of food for less than what you’ll pay at the store.”
