Virginia Marine held in death of wife found in Occuquan River

WASHINGTON – Caleb Crew, 27, of Alexandria, was ordered held without bail Monday on charges of murdering his wife.

Andrea Crew, 31, was found in the Occoquan River on Saturday.

Crew, who grew up in Woodbridge, was a corporal in the Marine Corps. He was in the Marine Corps Reserves from 2004 to 2010, serving in Afghanistan, where he was awards the Afghanistan Campaign Medal. He was in the Individual Ready Reserve until he was discharged last September.

It was revealed in Fairfax County Juvenile and Domestic Court that Crew had been accused of pouring oil on his wife after a fight. His brother said in court that the couple had had marital problems recently.

Crew is due back in court on Sept. 12.

Andrea Crew was reported missing last Thursday; she had last been seen on Wednesday. Her body was found in the river by a boater around 9 a.m. Saturday, according to the Fairfax County police.

Caleb Crew was taken into custody at the Mount Vernon District Station and taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and charged on Saturday evening.
