Verizon customers lose service after fiber cable cut

WASHINGTON – More than 1,000 Verizon customers lost phone service on Tuesday morning after a fiber cable was cut in front of Broad Run High School in Ashburn, Va.

Hospitals, fire and police departments were not affected, Verizon says.

Officials believe the cable was cut by someone mowing grass at the school.

Technicians replaced 400 feet of cable and are working to return service. Affected customers should have phone lines back by 8 p.m., says Verizon.
