WASHINGTON – Two men were killed early Saturday morning when the taxi they were riding in was struck head-on by another car on Fairfax County Parkway.

The men who died at the scene were ages 29 and 24, and lived together in Sterling. The Fairfax County Police have not yet released their names; they say their families live outside the United States.

Manuel Alejandro Jimenez Benitez, 24, of Herndon, was driving south on Fairfax County Parkway, police said, when he veered into the northbound lanes and struck the oncoming taxi about 1:45 a.m. near Sugarland Valley Drive.

The police say the taxi driver is a 47-year-old man who lives in Herndon. He and Benitez were taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital. The taxi driver is in “serious, life-threatening condition,” according to the police. Benitez’s injuries are not life-threatening, the police say, and he will be taken to the Adult Dentention Center after he’s released from the hospital.

Detectives believe speed and alcohol, on Benitez’s part, played a role in the crash. Benitez has been charged with two counts of aggravated involuntary manslaughter.
