Police looking for driver in fatal hit-and-run

WASHINGTON – Virginia State Police are looking for a man suspected of being the driver in a fatal hit-and-run crash in Fauquier County.

The crash happened around 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 23 on Route 17 less than a mile south of Route 28.

Police say a 2004 scion was traveling south on Route 17 when it was rear-ended by a green, Ford-150 pickup truck. The impact pushed the Scion into a southbound 2010 Honda.

The driver of the Scion was killed and the car’s passenger was seriously injured.

Police say 32-year-old Diego Vazquz Mendoza was the driver of the pickup truck and fled the scene on foot.

His last known address is the Sleepy Hollow Motel Trailer Park at 400 James Madison Highway in Culpeper County, Va.

The driver of the Scion, 58-year-old Douglas Rabren, of Stafford, Va. died at the scene. His passenger, 59-year-old Debra Rabren, was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the Honda was not injured.

A warrant for a felony hit-and-run is out for Mendoza.
