Broadwell is CIA Director David Petraeus' biographer, with whom he had an affair that led to his abrupt resignation last Friday. It was Broadwell's threatening emails to Jill Kelley, a Florida woman who is a Petraeus family friend, that led to the FBI's discovery of communications between Broadwell and Petraeus indicating they were having an affair. WASHINGTON – As top officials were gathering to meet with leaders of the House Intelligence Committee about the sex scandal involving Gen. David Petraeus, his embattled biographer and alleged mistress holed up in a quiet Northwest D.C. neighborhood.

Paula Broadwell was staying at her brother’s picturesque Mount Pleasant house, attracting a media blitz to the tree-lined stretch of Park Road. TV crews, reporters and gawkers have been hunkered down outside the home since Tuesday afternoon.

“We live here and we’re not very happy,” a man who identified himself as a neighbor told WTOP. “Intrusive, you know, and nasty to us, the people who are staking out. They have been very not nice.”

DCist reports that the cream-colored house was at the center of a very different controversy in 1950. Dr. Robert Deane, a black man, purchased the home just two years after the Supreme Court struck down neighborhood “covenants” restricting blacks from buying property in the formerly all-white neighborhood, according to Virtual Tourist. The neighbors sued and lost, and Deane lived there until his death in 2001.

A jogger in Rock Creek Park also recently discovered a North Carolina driver’s license belonging to Broadwell, according to U.S. News and World Report. Her attorney, Robert F. Muse, confirmed that his client had previously lost her ID while out for a run.

Broadwell has remained silent on her role in the expanding CIA sex scandal, which has grown to involve Florida socialite Jill Kelley, who Broadwell reportedly perceived to be her romantic rival, and decorated military commander Gen. John Allen, who allegedly exchanged “flirtatious” emails with Kelley.

But Broadwell’s silence has not exempted her from public scrutiny. The Washington Examiner recently compiled a list of her “best” tweets:

Meanwhile, Petraeus has agreed to testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee about the Sept. 11 attacks on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi. A date has not been set.

Listen to an interview below of Paula Broadwell from KJR/95.7 Seattle’s Bob Rivers Show from before the scandal broke:

This story has been modified to say that Broadwell’s license was “recently discovered” in Rock Creek Park.
