Va. toll road reopened after Tractor-trailer crash

WASHINGTON – A tractor-trailer carrying about 7,000 gallons of diesel fuel overturned Thursday on the Dulles Greenway, causing police to shut down the toll road.

The accident occurred around 5:30 a.m. near Shreve Mill Road, south of Leesburg, and the closures occurred between Shreve Mill Road and Belmont Ridge Road.

The eastbound lanes of the roadway reopened shortly before 6:30 a.m., and the left westbound lane opened about 8:20 a.m.

Crews safely transferred the fuel into another tanker truck before they removed the wreckage. The westbound lanes reopened around 2 p.m.

The driver, a 52-year-old man from Strasburg, Va., was taken to a hospital with serious, but non-life- threatening injuries. Charges are pending at this time.

On Wednesday, the driver of a tractor-trailer was killed when the truck he was driving overturned near Interstate 95 and the Fairfax County Parkway.

That accident led to hours of delays for commuters on northbound I-95 in northern Virginia.
