Water bills set to go up in District

WASHINGTON – Get ready to pay more for water in the District.

The average water bill for D.C. families is about to go up $5.73 a month.

D.C. Water is raising the price of water by 24 cents and raising the price of sewer service by 30 cents for every 1,000 gallons of water used.

The agency is using a 44 percent hike on a surcharge to help fund a 13-mile, $2.6 billion tunnel that will run from Northeast Washington to D.C. Water’s Blue Plains treatment facility, The Examiner reports.
