Police investigate fatal hit-and-run near Pentagon

WASHINGTON – A military veteran reported missing and endangered from another state was killed in a hit-and-run Tuesday morning on southbound Route 110 near the Pentagon, police say.

Arlington County police received a call at about 5:40 a.m. about a man being hit by a car on southbound 110 near the ramp to Washington Boulevard in Arlington.

A person who drove by the area tells WTOP they saw a car stopped near a body. But when police arrived, the car apparently was gone.

Police say the victim is a 62-year-old veteran who had been reported missing and endangered from Massachusetts, but they did not give his name. The man was thrown 60 feet after the crash.

There is no information about the vehicle that struck him. Police are investigating.

As a result of the investigation, the ramp to Washington Boulevard on southbound Route 110 was blocked for several hours. All lanes reopened shortly after 11:30 a.m.
