Body found in Leesburg pond thought to be missing man

WASHINGTON – Leesburg police have found a body in a drainage pond, two days after a witness reported seeing and hearing a man struggling in the water.

Police did not find anyone following the initial report Sunday. The search was halted Monday due to adverse weather and water conditions.

Police resumed the search Tuesday with the help of a cadaver dog and were able to locate the body.

Preliminarily, police believe the body is that of Emerson Aldron Ramirez Edejer, who was reported missing by his family Sunday evening.

Edejer was reported missing around 8 p.m. Sunday by family members. He had been last seen at 10:30 a.m. the same day.

Family members told police Edejer left his home on Edmonton Terrace in Leesburg and was going to play basketball at a nearby court.

Police say Edejer suffered from a bipolar disorder and had not taken his medication, according to family members.

Someone called Leesburg Police about 11:40 a.m. Sunday to report seeing a man in a drainage pond, west of the Leesburg Bypass and south of Battlefield Parkway.

At the time, there had been no missing person reports submitted to police.
