G-8 Twitter chatter: Protesters coming to Camp David

G-8 protesters say they are coming.

Social media networks are atwitter with discussions about plans to occupy a park near the G-8 summit at Camp David in May.

In Twitter messages, supporters of Occupy groups from Baltimore, Chicago and elsewhere are discussing pros and cons of leaving their various city bases and coming to Frederick County for the summit May 18 and 19.

Some messages say senders have rented campsites at Cunningham Falls State Park and are encouraging others to do the same.

The park still had campsites available Thursday.

Thousands of people had planned to protest the international summit when it was scheduled for Chicago. Some claim credit for President Barack Obama’s decision to move it to Camp David near Thurmont.

Obama’s official statement was that Camp David is a more intimate setting. The summit includes leaders of the world’s eight largest economies: the United States, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia and the United Kingdom.

Protesters and Occupy movement supporters have discussed whether to travel for the G-8 or stay in Chicago to focus on the NATO summit that is still scheduled for May 20 and 21.
