4 dead after crash on Route 50

CROFTON, Md. – A car driving the wrong way on Route 50 collided with another car, killing four and shutting down traffic on Route 50 for hours Saturday morning.

Maryland State Police tell WTOP a Chrysler was driving west in an eastbound lane when it hit a BMW going in the right direction head on.

Three people in the Chrysler died at the scene and a driver of BMW died at a hospital.

The crash happened around 3:45 a.m. on east bound Route 50 near Davidsonville Road.

Three victims were in the vehicle traveling the wrong way. Police identified them as 18-year-old Breanna Marie Franco, 19-year-old Brittany Ann Walker and 18-year-old Zachary Tyler Rose.

The name of the fourth victim, who was in the vehicle traveling the right way, wasn’t immediately released.

Police are investigating. It is not known whether alcohol or speed were factors in the crash.

The eastbound lanes of Route 50 were shut down for about four hours.
