WASHINGTON – Maybe Paul Simon needs to revise “50 Ways to Leave Your Lover.” It looks like there are 51 ways to leave your lover. Texting is now on the list.

One in 10 people uses text messages to break up, according to The Daily Mail.

In addition to that, a quarter of the 2,000 people surveyed by the mobile phone site Recombu.com confess to having flirted with someone they shouldn’t in a text.

Celebrities aren’t immune, either. A text is how Jennifer Aniston ended her relationship with John Mayer, and how Britney Spears told Kevin Federline she wanted a divorce.

A text breakup can even happen in a professional relationship. Tiger Woods saw his swing coach, Hank Haney, resign with a text.

Hannah Bouckley, editor of Recombu.com, which carried out the research, tells The Daily Mail that people gravitate toward texts to avoid confrontation.

It isn’t all bad news, though. In the survey of 2,000 people, 11 percent had been asked out on a date through a text message.

Here are the top 10 text messages for breaking up, according to TextingAdvice.com.
