Dog shot, killed in Northwest D.C.

WASHINGTON – A German Shepherd has been shot and killed near the intersection of Tuckerman and 14th streets in Northwest D.C.

Police say the dog was attacking three people shortly before 6 p.m., including one victim who was in a wheelchair. Someone tracked down law enforcement officials to contain the dog, but the canine attacked the responding officer.

The officer shot the dog in self-defense. It died on the scene.

Police are talking to the owner about the incident.
