WASHINGTON — A teenager from the District was robbed and killed near a bus stop early Sunday morning.

The target? A pair of basketball shoes with a retail value of around $200.

“We are searching for a vehicle and are asking the assistance of the public in trying to locate the vehicle,” says Lt. Robert Alder with D.C. Police.

“It’s a small gray or silver 4-door SUV, and we believe the vehicle would have some bullet holes in it and probably some broken glass,” he says.

David Lee Robinson, 19, from Northwest D.C., was shot near 58th and Foote streets in Northeast, police say.

“We don’t have any information that suggests that this was not a stranger-on-stranger robbery,” Alder says.

At this stage of the investigation, it’s not clear if shots were exchanged before or after the robbery. One other person was with Robinson at the time. He escaped unharmed.

Investigators found a handgun at the scene. They have not said if Robinson or the person with him used the gun during the exchange.
