Gadgets that get you moving in 2012

WASHINGTON — Many made a vow to shed some pounds in 2012 and there are some gadgets on the market that could help in that effort.

One of the keys to weight loss is counting calories, and several electronic devices ingare available designed to help you do just that.

A gadget called “striiv” bills itself as a “personal trainer in your pocket.” This key-sized device monitors how much you walk, and donates money to certain charities based on the number of steps you take.

Another, fitbit, works similarly by tracking the steps you take each day and the calories you burn. With this device, you can monitor your progress on Facebook.

Both devices cost about $100.

More expensive models from BodyMedia and Motorola perform similar functions, but also track the amount of calories you take in and your sleep habits, and help to keep you moving by playing music.

In fact, Motorola’s MOTOACTV reorganizes your music, recognizing the songs that make you work the hardest and buils a custom playlist.

This gagdet is a little pricier, ranging from $250 to $300.
