First baby of 2012 born at 12:12

WASHINGTON – The area’s first baby of 2012 arrived at 12:12 a.m.

At Southern Maryland Hospital Center, Irja Bonafede gave birth to a baby girl at 12:12 a.m. The baby weighed 8 pounds, 10.2 ounces.

Bonafede went into labor at the Baltimore Railroad Museum, and hubby Greg took her to the hospital around 7 p.m.

The little girl is the first for the Bonafedes, who live in Upper Marlboro. Older brothers, Leo, 5, and Dean, 3, are happy about the family’s newest member.

At Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Rockville, the first baby arrived at 12:49 a.m. He’s a , a boy, weighing 7 pounds, 14 ounces. Both mom and son are doing well.

The first baby born at Inova Loudoun Hospital was a girl. She came into the world at 1:01 a.m.

Washington Adventist Hospital in Takoma Park welcomed its first baby of 2012 at 3:47 a.m. She’s a girl who weighed in at 8 pounds, 5.6 ounces.

Families of first boy and girl born at Shady Grove and Washington Adventist have been given special gift baskets from nurses in the Labor & Delivery and Mother/Baby Units. The gifts include handmade towels, blankets, hats and booties.
