WASHINGTON -- Lawyers for the Bethesda Lululemon yoga store murder suspect did not file an insanity defense by the judge's deadline on Wednesday, leaving it unclear what Brittany Norwood's defense will be.
Norwood was charged with first-degree murder after she was found tied up alongside her co-worker, Jayna Murray, who was dead, inside the yoga apparel shop on March 12.
Norwood initially told police two attackers had entered the store and sexually abused both women before killing Murray.
Police said after an investigation that Norwood had lied and that she had killed Murray after Murray found stolen merchandise in Norwood's bag.
The prosecution has said blood found in Murray's car will be linked to Norwood. It has also been mentioned that only two sets of bloody footprints were found in the store. If there had been two attackers, there would have been four sets of prints.
In the next scheduled hearing, Norwood's lawyers will try to get blood stain and shoe print evidence excluded from the trial.
Norwood's lawyers had said they would likely file an insanity plea. It is not clear why they did not on Wednesday.
Sources say there have been no discussions of a plea deal.
