LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Clippers have hired Gillian Zucker as president of business operations.
She spent the last nine years as president of Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, the largest racetrack on the West Coast.
New team owner Steve Ballmer announced her hiring Thursday. She replaces Andy Roeser, who took an indefinite leave of absence after the scandal involving former owner Donald Sterling began in April.
Zucker had overseen Auto Club Speedway’s operations, ticketing, finance, communications and marketing since 2005. She also oversaw Chicagoland and Kansas Speedways. She previously was Daytona International Speedway’s vice president of business and development. She once worked in minor league baseball as the assistant general manager of the Durham Bulls in North Carolina.
Roeser had been the Clippers’ most prominent executive in recent years, but he upset many team employees when he released a statement questioning whether the incriminating recordings of Sterling making racist remarks were legitimate. Sterling was banned for life by the NBA and forced to sell the team he had owned for 33 years.
